Each ride-day the Light the Trail team will #Ride4 a victim of suicide to honor and celebrate their life, and to further healthy conversation about this important topic. If there’s someone you’d like us to #Ride4, please visit the #Ride4 page.

October 27, 2017: #Ride4 Philip “Skippy” Ball (by Kristian Smith)

Tell us about them…

Philip was a kind, giving, and loyal husband. We spent 9 great years of marriage. He loved animals, especially cats, and he loved Galveston Island. We spent our honeymoon at Galveston Island and it was probably the best week of both of our lives.

How has your perspective of depression and suicide shifted over time?

Having a diagnosis of MDD myself, I know how seriously this can affect every aspect of your life. When Philip died, I wanted to go too. Fortunately, I asked for help before I took the steps he did and I want to spread the message that there is always someone that can help you. There is nothing in this world that is worth taking your own life.

A small special way we can celebrate them on the road?

Just a prayer that he is at peace.

Is there a particular favorite song or band of theirs, or one you remember them by?

Band: Styx Song: Sailing Away
