Each ride-day the Light the Trail team will #Ride4 a victim of suicide to honor and celebrate their life, and to further healthy conversation about this important topic. If there’s someone you’d like us to #Ride4, please visit the #Ride4 page.

October 17, 2017: #Ride4 Daniel Shoemaker (by Felecia Criss)

Tell us about them…

Daniel was a son, husband, brother, uncle, cousin, the best of friends, and active duty Airman. He loved to have a good time and cut up, always making people smile and laugh. He loved the Cowboys, his jeep, and spending time with his friends and family. That smile of his lit up every room he entered.

How has your perspective of depression and suicide shifted over time?

The passing of Daniel has instilled what can only be explained as a fire or passion for educating people on mental health and suicide. I have become certified QPR instructor, started a support group for suicide loss survivors (Ellis County HEALS), and speak out against the stigma every chance I get.

Is there a particular favorite song or band of theirs, or one you remember them by?

He loved Oceans by Hillsong.
